Special Weather Statement: 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 17, 2024 The National Weather Service has extended a Coastal Flood Advisory for Ocean City, Strathmere and nearby coastal areas through 1 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 18. With a full moon on Tuesday and strong northeast winds throughout the week, evening high tides this week are expected to reach the bottom of the scale for “minor” coastal flooding. The advisory is likely to be extended through at least Thursday evening. Water levels are predicted to crest in the hours around high tide on the bay side (Ninth Street Bridge) of Ocean City at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday. High tide on the bay side of Strathmere near Corson’s Inlet is at 8:11 p.m. Tuesday. The NWS predicts a water level of 5.5 feet on the mean low water scale (MLW) for Tuesday evening. By comparison, the water level reached 5.47 feet MLW on Monday evening. Visit www.ocnj.us/octides to compare this prediction to other recent and historic tide levels. The Coastal Flood Advisory is likely to be extended through high tides at 9:17 p.m. Wednesday (5.7 feet MLW) and 10:04 p.m. Wednesday (5.9 feet MLW). Rain in the forecast could contribute to street flooding conditions. Residents should be prepared to move vehicles to safe places well in advance of these high tides. The roads closer to the beach including Central and Wesley avenues are typically at higher elevation. Parking at all municipal lots in Ocean City is free. Parking also will be available at the Trinity United Methodist Church at 20 North Shore Road in Marmora (please read letter from Trinity if you take advantage of this service).
