The Ocean City Beach Patrol will host its Women’s Lifeguard Invitational competition at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 16. The annual event features the top female athletes from southern New Jersey beach patrols competing in swimming, rowing, running and paddleboarding races. The Invitational is held at 12th Street Beach to allow spectators from the downtown sections of beach and boardwalk to see the competition. When: 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 16, 2024. Where: 12th Street and the beach, Ocean City, N.J. Events: - Row-Swim: Two competitors row out to a flag. One swims back to the finish line on the beach.
- Swim Relay: Two swimmers from each patrol will complete a 300-meter loop.
- Paddle Relay: Two paddlers from each patrol will complete a 300-meter loop.
- Run-Swim Relay: Each patrol will have two competitors. The first will run approximately one-half mile on the beach and tag a swimmer, who will complete an out-and-back course.
- Surf Dash Relay: Each patrol will have four competitors in a relay race through the shallow surf to a marker and back to the beach.
Scoring: Five teams in each event will score – 1st place (5 points), 2nd place (4 points), 3rd place (3 points), 4th place (2 points), 5th place (1 point). |
