Ocean City Office of Emergency Management Special Weather Statement: 1:40 p.m. Friday, Feb. 9, 2024
The National Weather Service has extended a Coastal Flood Advisory for Ocean City, Strathmere and nearby coastal areas through 1 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 10, 2024. Exceptionally high tides related to a new moon on Friday will cause minor flooding. The advisory could possibly be further extended to Sunday and early next week. Water levels are predicted to crest in the hours around high tide on the bay side (Ninth Street Bridge) of Ocean City at 8:17 a.m. Saturday. High tide on the bay side of Strathmere near Corson’s Inlet is at 8:01 a.m. Saturday. The NWS predicts a water level of 5.6 feet on the mean low water scale (MLW) for Saturday morning. By comparison, the water level reached 5.65 feet MLW on Tuesday morning, 5.67 feet MLW on Wednesday morning, 5.34 feet MLW on Thursday morning, and 5.65 feet MLW on Friday morning. Visit www.ocnj.us/octides to compare this prediction to other recent and historic tide levels. High tide at 9:06 a.m. Sunday morning (Feb. 11) is predicted to be at 5.5 feet MLW. Residents should be prepared to move vehicles to safe places well in advance of these high tides. The roads closer to the beach including Central and Wesley avenues are typically at higher elevation. Parking at all municipal lots in Ocean City is free. Parking also will be available at the Trinity United Methodist Church at 20 North Shore Road in Marmora (please read letter from Trinity if you take advantage of this service). For your safety and the protection of your vehicle and neighboring properties, never attempt to drive through flood waters, and do not drive around barricades.
