Ocean City Office of Emergency Management Special Weather Statement: 11 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, 2023 The National Weather Service issued a Coastal Flood Advisory in effect for Ocean City, Strathmere and nearby coastal areas from 6 p.m. through midnight on Thursday, Sept. 28. An approaching full moon, rain and strong northeast winds will combine to cause minor flooding on Thursday evening. Water levels are predicted to crest in the hours around high tide on the bay side (Ninth Street Bridge) of Ocean City at 8:17 p.m. Thursday. High tide on the bay side of Strathmere near Corson’s Inlet is at 7:59 p.m. Thursday. The NWS predicts a water level of 5.8 feet on the mean low water scale (MLW) for Thursday evening. By comparison, the water level reached a similar 5.8 feet in Ocean City on Wednesday evening. Visit www.ocnj.us/octides to compare this prediction to other recent and historic tide levels. The advisory is likely to be extended through Friday, when the moon is full and with continuing onshore winds. Residents should be prepared to monitor conditions and move vehicles to safe places in advance of the Wednesday evening high tide. The roads closer to the beach including Central and Wesley avenues are typically at higher elevation. Parking also will be available at the Trinity United Methodist Church at 20 North Shore Road in Marmora (please read letter from Trinity if you take advantage of this service).
