City of Ocean City, NJ - Office of Emergency Management

Special Weather Statement:

1:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 8, 2021

The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Advisory in effect for Ocean City from 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 9 through 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 10.

Strong easterly winds and high tides from a new moon earlier this week are expected to contribute to flooding through three tide cycles.

Water levels are expected to peak in the hours around high tide on the bay side (Ninth Street Bridge) of Ocean City at:

  • 10:59 a.m. Saturday (Oct. 9): Predicted water level is 6 feet on the MLW scale.
  • 11:22 p.m. Saturday (Oct. 9): 5.4 feet MLW
  • 11:53 a.m. Sunday (Oct. 10): 6.3 feet MLW

Saturday’s tides are categorized as “minor” tidal flooding, and Sunday’s falls at the bottom of the threshold for “moderate” tidal flooding. Visit www.ocnj.us/octides to compare this prediction to other recent and historic tide levels.

Residents should be prepared to monitor conditions and move vehicles to avoid street flooding. The roads closer to the beach including Central and Wesley avenues are typically at higher elevation. Free parking will be available at all municipal lots in town. Parking also will be available at the Trinity United Methodist Church at 20 North Shore Road in Marmora (please read letter from Trinity if you take advantage of this service).

For your safety and the protection of your vehicle and neighboring properties, never attempt to drive through flood waters, and do not drive around barricades.

For Police & Fire Department emergencies, call 911. For non-emergencies, call 609-399-9111.
