The Cape May County Municipal Utilities Authority (CMCMUA) is replacing/rehabilitating the force mains that carry wastewater to the treatment plant on the bay at 45th Street. The work will be on 31st Street from Haven Avenue to Bay Avenue; and Bay Avenue from 31st Street to Eighth Street.
By the end of Friday (Nov. 13, 2020), the contractor will have slip-lined the existing 20" diameter DIP line with a new 16" diameter HDPE pipe, going north from 31st Street, to a point midway between Tennessee Avenue and 23rd Street on Bay Avenue. The pull pit that is located south of 25th Street will be backfilled and temporary paved by the weekend. The pull pit that is north of 23rd Street will remain open and secure over this coming weekend. The contractor has also begun the restoration of concrete curbs and sidewalks on 31st Street. Next week, the Contractor will excavate another pull pit immediately north of 20th Street and continue slip-lining operations, as well as completing piping connections to the Authority's 20th Street Pump Station. The restoration of concrete structures will also continue, going northward from 31st Street. Over the weekend, Bay Avenue will be open to two lanes of traffic with lane shifts around the open pull pit near 23rd Street. Next week, Bay Avenue will be open to local traffic only between 24th and 18th Streets. Lane shifts will be set up, as required to protect the concrete crew.
