City of Ocean City, NJ - Office of Emergency Management

Special Weather Statement:

10 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, 2020

The National Weather Service has issued a Coastal Flood Watch in effect for Ocean City through midnight Thursday (Oct. 29, 2020). This notice is likely to be extended through Friday (Oct. 30, 2020).

Heavy rainfall, steady onshore winds gusting up to 45 mph, and higher-than-normal full moon tides will cause minor flooding over three tide cycles in the next two days.

Water levels are expected to peak in the hours around high tide on the bay side of Ocean City at the following times:

  • 7:50 p.m. Thursday (a water level of 5 feet on the MLW scale is predicted)

  • 8:10 a.m. Friday (6.2 feet)

  • 8:27 p.m. Friday (5.6 feet)

Visit www.ocnj.us/octides to compare these predictions to other recent and historic tide levels.

Residents should monitor conditions and be prepared to move vehicles from areas that typically experience tidal flooding. The roads closer to the beach including Central and Wesley avenues are typically at higher elevation. For your safety and the protection of your vehicle and neighboring properties, never attempt to drive through flood waters, and do not drive around barricades.

For Police & Fire Department emergencies, call 911. For non-emergencies, call 609-399-9111.
