The Cape May County Municipal Utilities Authority (CMCMUA) is replacing/rehabilitating the force mains that carry wastewater to the treatment plant on the bay at 45th Street. The work will be on 31st Street from Haven Avenue to Bay Avenue; and Bay Avenue from 31st Street to Eighth Street.
By Friday (Oct. 23), the contractor will have slip-lined at least 1,000 feet of the existing 20" DIP line with a new 16" HDPE pipe from 31st Street going north to just south of 29th Street. The pipe connections at 31st Street and Bay Avenue will have been made and the push/pull pit at that location is expected to be backfilled and temporary paved by the weekend. Over the weekend, both 31st Street and Bay Avenue are scheduled to be open to traffic with lane shifts around the open push/pull pits on Bay Avenue at 29th Street and at Vineyard Way. Next week, the contractor is planning on excavating one or two additional push/pull pits on Bay Avenue, all spaced approximately 1,000' apart, to enable the continuation of the slip-lining process. While that work is ongoing, Bay Avenue will be open to local traffic only between 34th and 24th Streets.
