During the past week, the contractor has commissioned the Air Release Chambers that have been installed and continued work on the pipe connections at the new valve vault that has been installed on the property of the Authority's 20th Street Pump Station. Also, the contractor has re-excavated the tie-in pits that are located at the north and south ends of the project at, respectively 8th Street and 31st Street, and has begun filling the new 20" PVC pipe full of water in anticipation of pressure testing and the transfer of flows to the new pipe. By the end of work on Friday, 5/8/20, Bay Avenue was open to two lanes of traffic, except between 8th and 9th Streets. Due to the tie-in pit at this location, only the northbound lane of Bay Avenue will be open. Also, 31st Street will be completely closed between Simpson and Haven Avenues due to the tie-in pit at that location. Next week, it is expected that pressure testing and the transfer of flows shall be completed. At that time, the slip-lining phase of the project will begin. With the exception of the 31st Street location and, intermittently at 8th Street, no traffic shutdowns are anticipated next week. All other traffic control will be done through lane shifts and local detours. The slip-lining phase of the project is expected to extend to mid- to late-June 2020. During this phase, traffic control should be done by lane shifts or limited local detours.
