The Cape May County Municipal Utilities Authority (CMCMUA) is replacing/rehabilitating the force mains that carry wastewater to the treatment plant on the bay at 45th Street. The work will be on 31st Street from Haven Avenue to Bay Avenue; and Bay Avenue from 31st Street to Eighth Street.
Currently, the only new 20" PVC pipe that remains to be installed is between 12th and 9th Streets. In an effort to get this phase of the project completed, the contractor has dedicated three crews to this task. However, with all the materials and equipment staged in such a limited area, the application of temporary pavement and demobilization on Fridays and the re-mobilization on the following Monday has become extremely difficult and time consuming. As a result, for this weekend (3/28 & 3/29), as well as next weekend (4/4 & 4/5), Bay Avenue will be open to local traffic only between 14th and 9th Streets, with all work areas and materials zoned off. The other work that will be done over the next week is the connection of vent piping to the fifteen (15) remaining concrete chambers that are distributed throughout the length of the project. The minor amount of excavation that will be required to complete this task will protected with lane shifts. The Authority apologizes for any inconvenience caused by this project and very much appreciates the continuing cooperation and patience on the part of the City, the County, and the residents and businesses of Ocean City.
