City of Ocean City, NJ - Office of Emergency Management Special Weather Statement: 1:45 p.m. Thursday, March 21, 2019 The National Weather Service has issued a Flood Advisory in effect for Ocean City on Thursday, March 21st. The latest forecast calls for heavy rain and strong easterly winds throughout the day. The Flood Advisory will be in effect from 7:00 p.m. Thursday through 1:00 a.m. early Friday morning. The National Weather Service predicts a water level of 5.8 feet on the mean low water (MLW) scale for a high tide at 9:42 p.m. on the bay side of Ocean City. That level is considered minor coastal flooding, but conditions could be worse if heavy rain coincides with high tide. Visit www.ocnj.us/octides to compare that prediction to recent and historic tide levels. Street flooding is likely prior to high tide and may last for several hours. Vehicles should be moved from areas that typically experience tidal flooding. The roads closer to the beach including Central and Wesley avenues are typically at higher elevation. For your safety and the protection of your vehicle and neighboring properties, never attempt to drive through flood waters, and do not drive around barricades. For Police & Fire Department emergencies, call 911. For non-emergencies, call 609-399-9111. Further information is available at www.ocnj.us/oem. |
