Ocean City Awards Paving Contract for Central Avenue

Ocean City, New Jersey – City Council recently awarded a contract for the paving of Central Avenue from 47th to 59th Streets. The low bidder was Lexa Concrete LLC from Vineland and the total contract cost is $970,721.   Work is expected to begin April.

This project will provide for the paving of Central Avenue from 42nd Street to 59th Street by the Summer season. A contract to pave 42nd Street to 47th Street was awarded in the fall.

Over the last year the City completed drainage and paving improvements in the Baylandings and Ocean City Homes areas along with a County/City project to raise streets in the area of 35th and 36th Street.  Paving was also completed on Ocean Avenue from 9th to 15th Street, 15th Street from Ocean to Wesley Avenue, 8th Street from Atlantic Avenue to the Boardwalk, Asbury Avenue from 5th to 3rd Street, and 24th Street from West to Haven Avenues.

The City received a $160,000 grant from New Jersey Department of Transportation towards the Asbury Avenue project. New Jersey American Water Company replaced a sewer line in 8th Street last spring and they will share in the cost of this project.

A plan to repave Asbury Avenue from 3rd Street to North Street is out to bid as well. This project is supported with an $186,000 State grant.

Finally, the drainage and paving improvements at the Ocean City Airport is nearing completion and will be done by Memorial Day. Two million dollars in federal stimulus grants from the Federal Aviation Administration will pay for these improvements that have been on the drawing board for years.

In order to save City tax dollars, many of these projects were designed and managed in-house by the City’s Planning and Engineering Department, saving the City over $150,000 annually.
